The Cathedral of Saint Patrick Liturgy Commission

Mission of the Liturgy Commission
The Liturgy commission is concerned with the liturgical functions that serve as the primary demonstrative expressions of faith, worship and the sacraments, as well as programs explicitly involving spiritual growth and development. The following are the ministries that are served under the Liturgy Commission.

Altar Guild
Being a Guild member is a unique way to participate in the liturgical life of the church, behind the scenes.  Through a combination of responsibilities, Guild members assist the Priests in caring for the liturgical appointments and sacramentals, the Altar area and sacristies, and help in the set up and preparation for special Masses and feast days. Time commitment varies from 1 hour a month to 1 hour a week, depending upon responsibilities.

Choir/Music Ministry

St. Augustine said, “Those who sing, pray twice”.  All Cantors, Choir Members, and Musicians are invited to share their voices and musical talents by celebrating the Mass in song.  Opportunities include the 11am Sunday Choir, two children’s choirs (for 2nd graders and 3-5th graders), and Cantoring for special Masses and liturgies.

“The liturgy is rightly seen as an exercise of the priestly office of Jesus Christ …. In it full public worship is performed by the Mystical Body of Christ, that is the Head and his members. Every liturgical celebration, because it is an action of Christ the Priest and his Body, which is the Church, is a sacred action surpassing all others. No other action of the Church can equal its efficacy by the same title and to the same degree.” Sacrosanctum Concilium (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy).
