Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is on-going after receiving First Holy Communion. The teens should continue to attend Faith Formation every year. Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation begins in January of eighth grade (Confirmation I) and continues in the fall of ninth grade (Confirmation II). The diocese requires that teens attend two years of formation prior to receiving the Sacrament. Therefore, teens who do not attend a Catholic school or approved homeschool program must enroll in Faith Formation for Children for the first half of their eighth grade year prior to starting Confirmation I in January. The cost for eighth grade formation is $35 because the teens only attend for the first half of the year.
Classes meet every other Sunday from 10:15 to 11:30 am in the Youth Room. In addition to regular catechetical classes, the teens are required to attend weekly Sunday Mass and participate in two approved Confirmation retreats over the course of the 1.5 year Confirmation preparation program. Teens will be asked to write a brief saint paper during their ninth grade year about their chosen Confirmation saint.
Teens must be baptized in the Catholic Church and the family must present a Baptismal certificate for the teen preparing for Confirmation. Teens who are not baptized, or who have no Faith Formation background since their First Holy Communion, may need to participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Teens.
There is a $100/per child registration fee which covers both Confirmation I and II. This fee covers curriculum development, materials and retreat costs.
