Coronavirus Safety Measures

How the Cathedral is working to promote a healthy worship environment

At the Cathedral of Saint Patrick we care about the safety and health of everyone who enters our church to pray. Here are some of the measures we have taken to promote a healthy environment during the present pandemic:

  • Alternate pews have been taped off and families are asked to sit a minimum of six feet apart per CDC recommendations on social distancing.
  • Face coverings are strongly encouraged while praying inside the Cathedral or attending indoor events on campus.
  • Hand washing signs have been posted in the bathrooms to remind people to wash their hands frequently to help reduce transmission of the virus.
  • Our pews are carefully sanitized with disinfectant every evening, in addition to following each of our Sunday Masses, for the protection of everyone. We also santize tables and chairs in the Family Life Center after events such as classes and activities.
  • Attendance in the Cathedral is currently limited to a maximum of approximately 140 persons, or however many people we can safely accommodate at a time with social distancing recommendations.
  • Cathedral clergy wear face coverings while administering Holy Communion and sanitize their hands between each family.
  • Motion-actiaved hand santizer and holy water dispensers are present near the entrances of the Cathedral. Bottles of hand sanitizer are located near the entrances to the Family Life Center.
  • Confessions are heard on the open-air back porch of the rectory and people waiting in line are asked to stand on the markings on the ground which have been measured to be six feet apart.

In the end, the good health of everyone depends upon personal responsibility such as staying home when you have a fever or are sick, and praying from home if you belong to an at-risk group (e.g. the elderly and immunocompromised). We are doing our best to create a safe worship environment and we ask for everyone's cooperation in these efforts. Thank you!
