Catholic Community Latin Academy

Announcing the Catholic Community Latin Academy, an inquirer’s class on the Latin language open to the public and suitable for learners of all ages and experience levels -- no prior knowledge of Latin is required! Eight one-hour sessions will be offered this fall beginning Thursday, October 3rd in the Family Life Center at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick. Adults of all ages and children over age 5 are eligible to attend. Children ages 5 to 10 will enjoy a separate children’s class which will be offered at the same time in a room adjacent to the adult class. Special arrangements for children under 5 may be made by prior agreement with the organizer. Students who complete this course should be able to have simple conversations in Latin using common sentence structures and frequently-used vocabulary.

Lessons held on: October 3rd, 10th, 24th, 31st; November 7th, 14th, 21st; December 5th

Cost: $3 per session payable at the door. Cash or check only.

Materials: All materials will be provided in class at no additional charge. Participants may wish to acquire a copy of Hans Oerberg’s Lingua Latina per se Illustrata vol. I: Familia Romana, but this is optional.
 
Method: Students in this course will experience Latin as a living language. Most of the non-administrative content will be provided in Latin with appropriate teaching structures in place to make sure students understand. Ecclesiastical pronunciation will be standard.

About the Instructor

The Catholic Community Latin Academy is led by Dr. Nancy E. Llewellyn, Associate Professor of Latin at Belmont Abbey College and St. Joseph College Seminary.
